Hip-hop crew mic.edu formed in 1997 after meeting at KCSB, the Santa Barbara community radio station where several of the group's members hosted shows.
Over the next two years, rappers A-Twice, Eriksolo, and Rüd the Instructor; producer Quarterbar; and turntablist DJ Lion issued an EP and several singles of jazzy and introspective hip-hop, primarily through their own Rocketship Records label. The group received heavy airplay on underground rap radio and performed live with likeminded acts such as Souls of Mischief and Aloe Blacc.
Tragically, group member A-Twice (Lafura Jackson) was killed by cancer in 2000 at the age of 24. As a result, mic.edu disbanded, with Eriksolo and Quarterbar going on to start the group Meanest Man Contest.
Two decades later, Lo-Vibes Recordings is releasing "Microphone Education," an album which collects all of mic.edu's key tracks in remastered form.
All Beats & Lyrics by ”mic.edu” Artwork by Jason Betrue Remastered by KK the Khaosist (at LVSL)
2000 was the last year that Lafura Jackson (aka A-Twice) spent on this planet. It was a meaningful time for me.
His humorous and intelligent character, cooking up interesting ideas and a lot of big plans that we talked about each other. and his all-around fun vibe and positive energy. More than anything else, I think about the many, many silly jokes we exchanged…but that's only my personal memory. ..
This album isn’t like a “Tribute album” to him.
19 years and more have passed since then. And now I'm very excited to be able to bring you this album by mic.edu, the hip-hop group Lafura was a part of. The group brought together the amazing talent of five young guys that were based on the west coast of the United States in the late 1990s. If mic.edu had been able to continue, I personally feel they might have been considered alongside crews like Souls of Mischief, Freestyle Fellowship, and The Pharcyde. While Lafura's skill, unique voice, and adeptness at rapping in both English and Japanese are all noteworthy, the other two MCs' abilities were also awesome. Meanwhile, the beats, rooted in the mainstream jazzy tastes of the era, featured a highly percussive sound and layers of unique samples. All of mic.edu's tracks were hugely original and continue to demonstrate the fact that the group should have enjoyed greater appreciation. This is not a nostalgia trip. The group's skills are totally clear, even if you listen to their music now. That's the main thing I want to convey with this release.
mic.edu's songs were released at the time on scattered singles, compilations, and an EP, but were never issued as a complete album. Until now. This is the first time the complete works of mic.edu have been collected. Additionally, all of the tracks are fully remastered for this album's release.
I would like to thank Eric Steuer (one of the original members of mic.edu, who recorded under the name Eriksolo) for working together with me to plan this release, as well as for providing me with all of the group's original recordings.

Here is the Khaosist (known as KK the Khaosist)’s newest beat sets in four years. as second release from “Lifetime Music Project.” In this work, Khaosist played around with the sound and sense of the artist who was the most influential and stimulating when he was young and impressionable, with Hip-Hop’s manner. Yup, His name is P-Roger Nelson. Khaosist did it for his birthday, May26.
("Lifetime Music Project"s' only goal is to satisfy his 'Ferocious Longing', and it will be continued for the rest of his life. It truly is a project that doesn't take goal or participant into consideration. )

It was a time when the mainstream was full of imitations of the original UK sound in Japan. Even though we were struggling through a clash with the mainstream, we continued to sell works that thoroughly drew out the uniqueness of each musician, and received better reviews in Europe and US than Japan. The colorfulness and high quality of that sound is still significant even when heard next to today's mainstream music like Bass Music, Gorge, Beats, and also Psychedelic and darkside Jazz. and it makes you realize the importance of "originality" in music.

jealousguy released Album "OVERSHADOWED" in 2015, which received very high praise from the public. While the various accurate yet Fat songs are wonderful, her greatest selling point is her performance at gigs that one could even call heroic. She has, for a long time, captivates audiences in Japan and Europe at gigs by AKAI pad and dynamically drumming out rich sounds with her small body. Here is the sound from the highlighting moment of that Live performance.
Performed by jealousguy at Tokyo Edited, Mastered & Artwork Layout by KK Fiber Art by Mana Morimoto

Her distinctive style is not restricted by BPM or traditional sequencing methods, immediately standing her apart from the crowd. Live she is just as idiosyncratic, captivating audiences with her energetic performances. Firmly putting to rest the idea that electronic music doesn’t translate live, she hits off every sound in real time playing the midi pads like a concert pianist ? it is truly something to behold. jealousguy first introduced herself by contributing to the compilation "A Prevalent Oscillation Base" from VOLVOX RECORDS in 2007. In 2009, she digitally released tracks from various labels such as gaterocords-owned tation and under tone. In April 2011, she released her debut album "Hydration" on Ihatov Remains. In 2015, her much-anticipated second album "OVERSHADOWED" will be released from Lo-Vibes. Based in Hokkaido she has played numerous shows. She opened for Four Tet in July and Gold Panda in September, 2011. In the same year, she performed at Mo' Fun making a huge impact on the audience, and has collaborated with many artists since. In 2012, she made an appearance at Low End Theory Japan and Sonar Japan and drastically expanded the scope of her musical activities. Later in the year, she joined kidsuke’s European tour organised by Original Cultures, spreading her playful sonics even further afield. She has been participating in various compilations, steadily building her profile internationally. Making full use of the MPDs, having developed and mastered her own original and personal approach to Ableton Live, she creates dizzying, crazy disjointed beats and melodies both live and on record. Her biggest passion is to give boosts of energy to the dance floor. Currently based in Niseko, Hokkaido, Masami enjoys her life in the countryside finding inspiration in nature. Now four years after her debut, she has really captured the essence and dynamism of her live show in this new work. The range of melody and rhythm at play is quite astonishing, her talent really shining through. Both colorful and chaotic, but always underpinned by aggressive drums and bass, "OVERSHADOWED" positions her at the forefront of the international beats scene. Impossible to categorize, jealousguy is in her own lane and one of the most exciting new artists to emerge in electronic music. KK’s Lo-Vibes label are proud to welcome Hokkaido’s female beat creator, her long-awaited new album is finally coming out! MUST LISTEN!
